Polyurethane is often referred to interchangeably as "urethane". However, polyurethane does not contain urethane, nor does it contain ethyl carbamate. Urethanes are often the material solution when a gasket or seal needs to be as soft as rubber or as hard as plastic but able to withstand environments where neither rubber nor plastic gaskets can survive. Polyurethane's material properties make it better able to resist abrasion, cutting, cracking, oil, grease, chemicals, high impact and heavy loads. It is virtually impervious to the effects of ozone and oxygen. Applications for polyurethane gaskets and seals include wear pads, electrical equipment, machine supports, vibration damping and shock absorption.
